Get Lush Lashes with Lash Abundance

By Alix Tunell, Guest blogger

long, full eyelashes with aveda's new lash abundanceI have long envied women who don’t need to spend ten minutes every morning curling their lashes and applying the blackest of black mascara just to look awake. My naturally short lashes do nothing for my eyes, and often, one falls off each time I remove my makeup. When prescription lash enhancers popped up on the market, I was tempted, but the price and horror stories of discoloration turned me off the idea.

When I heard the news that Aveda was preparing to launch a lash enhancing serum, I was thrilled. Like most of our products, Lash Abundance is 98.6% naturally derived and people-tested. I trust Aveda products, and that’s crucial when it comes to putting a product close to my eyes. The serum will retail for $75 and launch on February 12, 2012. It promises fuller, thicker, longer lashes after eight weeks with no reactions or side effects.

I have been using an eight-week supply of Lash Abundance for a week now. Following the instructions, I apply it twice daily (once when I wake up and once before bed) along my upper and lower lash line, letting it dry for ten to fifteen minutes before applying the day’s mascara. In order to test the claim that the serum will not irritate eyes (okay, it was an accident), I touched the brush too close to my eye a few times, and was pleasantly surprised to find that there was no stinging or redness.

I haven’t lost a single eyelash to face wash or makeup remover since I began using it, and I swear my lashes are darker already, so I have high hopes for the product. Stop by Nurtur the Salon in February to pick up your own Lash Abundance and get bat-worthy lashes the safe and easy way!

New Year, New VISION: Preparing for Aveda’s New Color Line Debut

By Ellie Swensson, Guest blogger

Let me start by saying the past couple of weeks have been pretty wonderful over here at Nurtur. After our computer catastrophe at the beginning of the year — many thanks to all of you who stuck with us through that madness — there is plenty to be excited about. Our books are up and running, our shelves are stocked, our professionals are keeping busy, our guests are smiling….all in all, 2012 is looking snazzy.

Speaking of snazzy, did I mention that the swatches for the new full spectrum hair color have arrived?

Let me say that one more time: the preview for full spectrum reVISIONed is finally here. And believe me, this line doesn’t disappoint. Aveda took it up a notch — or three — with a collection of bright, vibrant red, purple, yellow, orange, green and blue. Add these beauts to the existing selection of Aveda color and you’ve got an impressive, highly customizable spread of shades that is sure to cause some serious style envy.

These little tubes of pigmented glory will be available for services the second week of February. The next couple of weeks can be spent getting our locks into the best shape possible. After all, the healthier our hair is on the front end of the process, the better and more brilliant our reVISIONed results will be.

My regement? Damage Remedy shampoo and conditioner with our new Color Conserve Daily Color Protect. I get the restructuring, strengthening benefits of Damage Remedy’s quinoa protein and the softening, preserving perks of a color-safe leave-in treatment. For me there is no better way to get hair ready for a color service, no matter how tame or dramatic.

Let the color countdown begin…

Golden Looks at the Golden Globes

Last night Meryl Streep, George Clooney, Michelle Williams and Octavia Spencer took home a Golden Globe award, but we think the following ladies deserve an award for fashion and beauty on last night’s red carpet.

Charlize Theron stunned crowds in a gorgeous, plunging Dior dress and her hair swept up and to the side with a beautiful and elegant Cartier diamond headpiece. We like to call her an elegant lady rather than a Young Adult.

Salma Hayek was striking in a beaded, geometrical Gucci dress. She hit the mark with her center part, long, loose waves and warm, blended color. With brown, natural makeup and art-deco earrings, she looked much more of a star than at the Puss in Boots premieres.

Reese Witherspoon pulled off the “effortlessly beautiful” look in her red Zac Posen gown and loose, tousled waves. Paired with a glossy, light pink lip, the actress proves she’s a beauty icon over and over again.

The ever-so-beautiful Sofia Vergara radiated in a teal Vera Wang gown and sleek, straight hair.

The timeless Nicole Kidman was jaw-dropping in a stunning, gray Versace dress with gold stones. She chose to keep her hair simple by curling the ends of her beautiful strawberry blonde locks.

Lastly, Kate Beckinsale dazzled in a strapless, ivory Roberto Cavalli dress and dangly diamonds. She set the look with a modern romantic updo and natural makeup.

Invati Reviews & Testimonials

You’ve probably heard all about Invati, Aveda’s new hair care system for thinning hair, but you’re wondering if it really works. Well, we had two of our guests try the Invati system (shampoo, conditioner and scalp revitalizer) before it came out to put Aveda’s claims to the test! Here’s what they had to say…

Pat

Aveda Invati Review “After using the Invati hair care system for six weeks, my hair is so thick and full! It’s a lot heathier, and I’m really happy with it! I used to be so proud of my thick hair, but as I started getting older, I began to worry about all the hair I was losing. Now my hair is healthier than it has been for a long time, and I now experience minimal hair loss.

People started noticing a difference in my hair just after the first two weeks. Also, family I haven’t seen for a while recently commented on the thickness and shine of my hair.

Using the Scalp Revitalizer twice a day has become routine, and the tingling that it produces is invigorating! I look forward to using it in the morning and also in the evening.  I love the scent, and I am very happy with all aspects of the product.  I would rate it a 10+ overall.

I will purchase and continue to use the Invati products, and I recommend them to anyone who has thinning hair. I add them to the list of Aveda products that I love!”

Amber

Aveda Invati review“Before, I noticed that my hair was getting thinner and falling out. Every day there was more hair in the shower and around my sink. This also annoyed my husband!  I was looking for a solution that would stop this process, and Invati has definitely helped!

I felt like I noticed fewer hairs in the sink just after the first couple of days! After a couple of weeks, my hair felt so much thicker, which was great. Now my hair feels so soft, healthy and thick, and my hair loss is now under control. My hair also doesn’t get flat or greasy during the day like it used to.

My only complaint would be that the shampoo doesn’t lather like other shampoos, so that took a while to get used to. Also, the scent is pretty strong, so if you don’t like it, then that will take some time to get over as well.

After 6 weeks using Invati, I have noticed a huge difference. I liked it more and more after each week.”

Holy Waves!

Do you love the look of loose waves but you’re not sure how to get them?  Here’s a step-by-step guide to achieve beautiful, wavy locks! Bring in a picture and ask your colorist for a blended color to get this beautiful definition!loose waves ombre hair

For long hair:

  1. Part your hair into sections. Clip each section in place, leaving only the bottom section down.
  2. Heat a 1” to 2” barrel curling iron. Take a 1” to 2” section of hair (make sure your section is the same width as the barrel of your curling iron), and lightly spray it with hairspray. Hold the curling iron facing downward in the middle of the strand; don’t use the iron’s clamp.
  3. Wrap the strand around the curling iron with your hand, careful not to burn yourself! Leave the bottom of the strand uncurled.
  4. Repeat Steps 1 & 2 until all of the bottom section is curled. Set with hairspray.
  5. Comb through the curls with your fingers.
  6. Repeat Steps 2-5 on all sections until the whole head is curled. After finger combing the hair, you will end up with long, loose waves like the picture! The bigger the curling iron barrel, the looser the wave.

For shorter hair:

Short Loose Waves

The technique described above may be too difficult to do on shorter hair. Here a how-to for those short-haired gals who long for loose curls!

  1. Part the hair into sections if you prefer.
  2. Heat a 1” to 2” barrel curling iron. Take a 1” to 2” section of hair (make sure your section is the same width as the barrel of your curling iron), and lightly spray it with hairspray. Clamp the curling iron into place in the middle of the strand.
  3. Twirl the curling iron once, making sure the bottom of the strand is hanging out.
  4. Continue to twirl the curling iron until the curl is as high as you want it to be.
  5. Release the clamp and pull the curling down and out.
  6. Repeat Steps 2-5 until whole head is curled.  Set curls with hairspray.
  7. Comb through the curls with your fingers or a paddle brush to create loose waves. The more you comb, the looser the waves!
